Wall-E tops Time Magazine's Top 10 Movies

According to Time's Richard Corliss, the top ten movies of the year are...

1. Wall-E
2. Synecdoche, New York
3. My Winnipeg
4. 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days
5. Milk
6. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
7. Slumdog Millionaire
8. Iron Man
9. Speed Racer
10. Encounters at the End of the World

Some notes:

4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days was technically a 2007 -- it was on last year's Golden Globes ballot for Best Foreign Film -- but aside from a brief qualifier, it wasn't released in the U.S. until 2008, which is why it's on Corliss's list this year.

With ample critical love, it looks like Synecdoche, New York won't have much trouble securing a Best Original Screenplay nomination -- even though for me, it kind of turned me against Charlie Kaufman.

Milk, Benjamin Button, and Slumdog Millionaire are all still very real Best Picture possibilities.

It's also interesting that The Dark Knight is left off this list, but Iron Man is included -- especially since Iron Man ripped off its entire structure from Batman Begins. (Think about it: the trip overseas, the return home, the creation of the suit, the friend-turned-enemy, etc. It's all almost identical, beat for beat.)
