The Title of Michael Moore's Latest

For the past few weeks, there's been speculation that Michael Moore will call his latest documentary Save Our CEOs. But he's finally released the official title, and it is...

Capitalism: A Love Story

From the press release:

As previously announced, Moore will return to the issue that began his career: the disastrous impact that corporate dominance and out-of-control profit motives have on the lives of Americans and citizens of the world.

On why he chose to make a ‘love story,’ Moore stated that it was time for him to make a ‘relationship movie.’  "It will be the perfect date movie," said Moore. "It's got it all -- lust, passion, romance, and 14,000 jobs being eliminated every day.  It's a forbidden love, one that dare not speak its name.  Heck, let’s just say it: It’s Capitalism.”

For an idea on the kind of things the documentary will contain, look no further than Moore's recent mailing list (via AwardsDaily):

Yes, he stole $65 billion from some already quite wealthy people. I know that’s upsetting to them because rich guys like Bernie are not supposed to be stealing from their own kind. Crime, thievery, looting — that’s what happens on the other side of town. The rules of the money game on Park Avenue and Wall Street are comprised of things like charging the public 29% credit card interest, tricking people into taking out a second mortgage they can’t afford, and concocting a student loan system that has graduates in hock for the next 20 years. Now that’s smart business! And it’s legal. That’s where Bernie went wrong — his scheming, his trickery was an outrage both because it was illegal and because he preyed on his side of the tracks.

Moore is obviously a polarizing figure.  Are his movies documentaries or propaganda?  Is he looking out for the common man or for himself?

Feel free to weigh in below, but my own thought is that Moore's movies have more to do with himself than with his subjects -- and that's not necessarily his fault.  Yes, he sticks himself in the center of most of them (he took a backseat in Sicko, which I think was a step in the right direction) but it's news outlets like the 24 hour networks that will take partisan bickering over actual issues any day.

In other words, when Capitalism: A Love Story comes out, expect lots of stories on Moore and his filmmaking tactics, expect lots of panels full of haranguing over Moore's fact-checking, but don't expect many stories actually about capitalism.
