New Academy Invitees Include Michelle Williams, Michael Cera, Tyler Perry, and More...

Widening the field to ten Best Picture nominees certainly shook things up, but apparently the Academy's far from done -- which is kind of surprising, actually. I figured they'd give themselves a nice pat on the back and pray for ratings.

Their latest move is to invite lots of those young hip kids you keep on hearing about into their ranks. Kids who, for example, wouldn't necessarily vote for The Reader. Kids like...

Wait a minute, Michelle Williams was nominated for an Oscar for Brokeback Mountain, and they didn't invite her the year after that? Weak sauce, Academy.

Other invitees include Tyler Perry, Amy Ryan, Jane Lynch, and Hugh Jackman, plus a bunch of nominees from last year: Michael Shannon, Dustin Lance Black, and Danny Boyle, among others.

I think I'd be more excited about all the young blood if I didn't just watch Michael Cera pee on his own face while hanging upside-down in Year One. But I think it's ultimately a step in the right direction.
