Gamble on the Globes

The online casino BetOnline.com has come out with their odds-on favorites to win the Golden Globes, reports Carpetbagger. Yep, that's right: if you want to, you can bet on the Golden Globes.

Here are some of their odds:

BEST PICTURE - DRAMA
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: 3 to 2
Slumdog Millionaire: 8 to 5
Frost/Nixon: 5 to 1
The Reader: 7 to 1
Revolutionary Road: 10 to 1

BEST PICTURE - COMEDY OR MUSCIAL
Mamma Mia: 9 to 4
Burn After Reading: 11 to 4
Vicky Cristina Barcelona: 11 to 4
Happy Go Lucky: 4 to 1
In Bruges: 8 to 1

BEST DIRECTOR
David Fincher (Ben Button): 3 to 2
Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon): 5 to 2
Danny Boyle (Slumdog): 7 to 2
Stephen Daldry (Reader): 5 to 1
Sam Mendes (Revolutionary Road): 8 to 1

And the actors with the best odds...

Actor - Drama: Sean Penn, 4 to 5
Actor - Comedy: Javier Bardem, 3 to 2
Actress - Drama: Meryl Streep, 9 to 5
Actress - Comedy: Sally Hawkins, 6 to 5
Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger, 5 to 4
Supporting Actress: Penelope Cruz, 5 to 7

They all seem pretty spot-on; Benjamin Button is just the kind of thing the Golden Globes would vote for because it's star-studded and expensive-looking. Giving Penelope Cruz better odds than Kate Winslet or Viola Davis in the Supporting Actress category seems a little wonky, though.

Then again, Cruz is quite good-looking, and unfortunately, Supporting Actress awards should often be more accurately named Most Attractive Supporting Actress (see: Marisa Tomei, Mira Sorvino, Jennifer Connelly, Kate Hudson...)
