Ebert's Not Done with Lists

Roger Ebert turned in a very unconventional "Top 10" list this year -- it was twenty films long and listed in [gasp] alphabetical order instead of ranked by which was "best." But even though he's done away with rankings (he still throws ad campaigns a bone by saying each film counts as "one of the year's best films"), he still apparently likes making lists. A lot.

He just came out with a Top 10 Foreign Films of the Year list -- again, in alphabetical order. I've been reading Ebert for a while and to my knowledge he usually doesn't do this, but he's lately taken to trying to give smaller films a push in hopes that they get distribution here in the U.S. An admirable goal, so we'll help out by listing his choices:

A Christmas Tale
The Duchess of Langeais
The Edge of Heaven
4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days
A Girl Cut in Two
I've Loved You So Long
The Last Mistress
Let the Right One In
Tell No One
XXY

"Jury Prize": In Bruges (because it's in English but set in Bruges, Belgium).

He also mentions that O'Horten, Waltz With Bashir, and The Class (regrettably the only new foreign film I've seen this year, unless we're counting In Bruges) would make it on this list, but he's saving them for next year because they don't come out in the U.S. until 2009.

Of the ones on the actual list, I'm particularly interested in seeing Let the Right One In after a commenter on this blog chastised me for calling it a "vampire genre film." The first review I read of it was a pan, but then afterwards I've been hearing nothing but great things about it.
